Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In some x86 Platforms, customers may get an error message during an ILOM firmware (F/W) upgrade.

ILOM upgrade error

Cause

This issue sometimes happens during an ILOM F/W DOWNGRADE, because the older versions configuration is different with current version.

Sometimes there are too many enhancements to a new ILOM F/W upgrade so the existing configuration cannot be preserved.

Solution

In order fix this issue and complete ILOM F/W UPGRAD, customers need to uncheck "Preserve Exiting Configuration" or "Preserve Configuration" setting before press "Start Upgrade" button.

Preserve Configuration

NOTE: Unchecking "Preserve Exiting Configuration" or "Preserve Configuration" will loose ILOM configuration settings. Customers will need configure ILOM again after the F/W upgrade has finished.

It is recommended that customers take screen shots or make a note of the ILOM and BIOS configuration settings just prior to the upgrade.

@Other x86 Platform may get same issue, please update to author via comments, then author will update more platforms to this docs, thanks.
