Information in this document applies to any platform.
Customer purchased new cleaning tapes and entered them in to the library. However, they are marked as "expired" or "spent" on first use.

Symptoms

Brand new T10KB cleaning carts are marked as spent.
We are trying to determine why brand new cleaning tapes entered in the library are updating with "spent" / fully used status.

Currently unable to clean any of the T10KB drives and therefore unable to use them.

Cause

Most likely cause: Customer did not delete the volume ids of the expired cleaning tapes from the host and backup applications before entering the new cleaning tapes into the library.

Solution

1.  Ask customer if they are re-using the same barcodes for the new cleaning tapes as for the expired ones.

2.  Ask customer if the volume ids for the expired cleaning tapes were deleted from the host and back up applications BEFORE the new cleaning tapes were entered into the library.
