Symptoms

Customers cannot register the asset in MOS for Auto Service Request (ASR).

Cause

The Oracle shipping serial number exists in the entitlement configuration, but the chassis/midplane serial number is required for ASR registration.

Solution

Collect and provide the following information:

  1. Chassis serial number
    1. Located on the rear of the array chassis
    2. Example of Chassis Serial number: 1222ED7K15 (starts with numeric character)
    3. Chassis Serial number must be on an active contract
  2. Midplane serial number
    1. Obtaining the midplane serial number via Common Array Manager
      1. Select the following to gather the midplane serial number
      2. Storage system name
      3. Physical devices
      4. Administration
      5. On the right hand screen collect the midplane serial number:
      6. In this example: SX12000874
    2. Obtaining the midplane serial Number via supportData
      1. The serial number may also be acquired by collecting a new SupportData via the Service Advisor under Array Troubleshooting and Recovery.
      2. To collect a supportData from the array refer to <Document 1002514.1> Collecting Sun Storage Common Array Manager Array Support Data
      3. Once acquired, expand and open the storageArrayProfile.txt file and search for Drive/Controller Tray

Submit New Service Request https://support.oracle.com

  1. Navigate to the Service Requests tab

  2. About half way down the page you will see Contact Us Service Requests.  Select Create "contact Us" SR.
    A.  For Problem Summary please enter "Please update the midplane serial number in the current configuration".
    B.  For Problem Type select License and Entitlement questions and Hardware/OS- Entitlements.
    C.  Enter your Support Identifier and then select the Next button.

  3. Move on to the More Details step.
    A.  Please select no for question one.
    B.  For question two, please include the following:
    Chassis serial number is :
    Midplane serial number is:
    Please update the midplane serial number in active CSI/Contract of contract serial number ##### and then select the Next button.

The contract of the midplane serial number must be updated on the same contract as the Oracle chassis serial number.
