Symptoms

The Commvault backup application cannot dismount tapes from ACSLS logical library drives

The acsss_event.log shows TRANSPORT_BUSY error during the dismount.

The smce log shows that the Dismount failed because the tape is not unloaded:

Changes

Configured Commvault backup application to use SCSI Mchanger Emulation over FC interface with ACSLS.

Cause

There is a "skip unload" drive setting in Commvault that needs to be enabled for VTL.
If enabled, Commvault will not issue a SCSI unload request to the target device prior to the unmount function.
VTL does not need the "unload" function. But a physical tape needs to be unloaded before it can be moved to its home cell in a robotic library.

This Commvault "skip unload" setting was enabled by the customer. It should be disabled, by default.

Solution

Disable the Commvault "skip unload" option.
Please contact Commvault support for instructions on how to disable this feature.
