Symptoms

Amber maintenance LED is on, but no fault found.

To discuss this information further with Oracle experts and industry peers, we encourage you to review, join or start a discussion in an appropriate My Oracle Support Community - Oracle Sun Technologies Community.

Cause

If a Mx000 system shows a lit maintenance LED for no apparent reason, perform the following:

  • Double check if the amber maintenance LED is really lit on the server
( this can't be confirmed remotely or from an XSCF snapshot; only direct from the operator panel )
  • Verify serial number locally with the one provided in showhardconf ( to ensure the correct platform )
  • Verify overall hardware status is OK and the command output from "showstatus" provides normal operational status
  • Verify "showlogs error" and  "fmdump" doesn't show actual events
  • Verify firmware level, with "version -c xcp", as older revisions of XCP (below 1071) had issues with sticking LED

If the above have been checked and all excluded as possible reasons for the maintenance LED then this may be an erroneous, non-reproducible
behavior of SCF software on the XSCF which set the LED register wrongly or just did not reset from the previous state.

This may be fixed by a workaround.

XSCF> showstatus
No failures found in System Initialization.

>>> this means NO fault on the server, normal operational status

Solution

Workaround: manual refresh of the LED status register

  •  set explicitly the LED status register
    XSCF> setlocator blink ( confirm it's blinking )

  •   reset explicitly the LED status register
    XSCF> setlocator reset ( confirm it's off )

If the maintenance LED is still on, try the following:

  • Reboot the XSCF unit
    XSCF> rebootxscf -y
  • Update the XCP firmware to the latest available revision ( see referenced Matrix and FAQ information below )
  • Re-perform the workaround
  • If problem persists, please open a hardware service request for the appropriate CSI
