Symptoms

Sever the replication connection from one or more replicated shares.

When attempting to sever the replication connection, the following error message is displayed:

zfssa:shares replication source-000 package-008> sever myshare

This action will permanently sever this package and its replicated shares from
the source system, making them local projects on this system. Subsequent
replication updates in either direction will require defining new actions and
sending a full update.

Are you sure? (Y/N)

error: An unanticipated system error occurred: validation failure
This may be due to transient failure, or a software defect. If this problem
persists, contact your service provider.

Cause

This is an issue with authentication using Directory Services - NIS, LDAP or Active Directory (and possibly, Identity Mapping).

The replication target system does not 'match' the authentication method used by the replication source system.

NOTE: This issue may also be observed due to quota/reservation settings on the target share.

Solution

NIS

Cause:  This may happen if source machine is in a NIS domain, but the target machine is not.

Solution:  Add the replication target system to the NIS domain.

LDAP

Cause:  The target system is having trouble connecting to LDAP because of an outage.

Solution:  Once the search descriptors for the users and groups in the LDAP schema definition were configured, the replication 'sever' action completed successfully.
