In certain versions of AK Storage Software, the Gen 4 Logzilla(TM) Solid State drives (Oracle PN: 7045627, Model number:Z16IZF2EUSUN73G) can have increased writes to the SSDs, eventually causing them to fail with a SMART trip for exceeding the endurance threshold. The drive will fail with a SMART trip, 0x80 with additional sense key 0x4c for exceeding the endurance threshold. This document outlines the "Appliance workflow" workaround that makes the necessary changes (disables the Sync Cache on the SSD) on the fly and will remain persistent. Note: See Sun Alert <Document:1596246.1> for complete information regarding this issue and the recommended resolution.
ChangesThe workaround applies to the following AK versions which are affected by this issue:
for the following platforms:
The Gen 4 SSD model number can be determined from the display in the BUI: CauseDisables Sync Cache and this change is persistent. SolutionThe following screens provide the workaround for this issue until the AK version upgrade can be applied, as documented in Sun Alert <Document:1596246.1>. To install and apply the workflow to disable SSD Sync: 1. Obtain the "Appliance Workflow" workaround file attached to this document (disable_ssd_sync_0.7.akwf) and save the Workflow file on a system that is accessible by the browser. 2. Install the Workflow 2.1 To install the workflow, click on the Maintenance menu and then click on Workflows. 2.2 Click on the + sign next to Workflows on the left side above the horizontal bar. 2.3 A new window will pop up and ask you to enter the workflow file. Click on the Browse button to find the file. 2.4 Once you have selected the file, click the 'Open' button, then in the next popup click on 'Upload' to load the new Workflow file. 2.5 Once the Workload is properly uploaded, you should see the new entry in the 'Workflows' menu. 3. Applying the Workflow 3.1 To apply the new Workflow, click on the new Workflow, then a window will pop up asking to enter an email address. Enter your email address (for Workflow accounting purposes) and click 'Apply' to start the application of the workflow. 3.2 You will see a new window pop up showing the progress of the workflow. 3.3 When the workflow is done, the OK button which initially was grey and inactive will become active. Click to finish. 3.4 You will get a final result message. Make sure that the process was successful. If not, please capture the message for further analysis. This change applied will be persistent through reboots and power cycle of the system. The current version of the software can be obtained in the BUI by going to Maintenance-> System under Current Installation and version: See Sun Alert <Document:1596246.1> for complete information regarding this issue and the recommended resolution.
