Applies to:

SPARC T4-4 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On a T4-4, running S11, when adding LUNs from a Fujitsu DX8400 SAN luns past 256 (0x0FF) are not seen.

Cause

Limitation on the Fujitsu DX8000 series.  This is not a Solaris 11 limitation.

Solution

Looking at the Eternus DX400/DX8000 Series User Guide

See page 307:

When the Affinity Mode is [OFF], and the Host Response that can
use up to 512 LUNs (0x000 – 0x1FF) (*1) is changed to the Host
Response that can only use up to 256 LUNs (0x000 – 0x0FF) (*2),
the LUN mappings allocated for FC-CA Port (0x100 – 0x1FF) is
deleted.

See also page 356:

Host Specific Mode of the      Affinity group                     Concatenated
    Host Response              Not Concatenated

HP-UX Mode (SCC)               512 LUNs (0x000 - 0x1FF)   1024 LUNs (0x000 - 0x3FF)

AIX Mode (Extended Address) &
Linux/NR1000V Mode (Extended   512 LUNs (0x000 - 0x1FF)
Address)

Others                         256 LUNs (0x000 - 0x0FF)  (*1)

Number of LUN that can access
*1: However the LUN Mapping can be created up to 512 LUNs, hosts can access the first 256 LUNs

This is a limitation on the Fujitsu for Solaris.  Fujitsu's solution is to treat hbas from the same host as different hosts from the Fujitsu perspective.

Contact 3rd party vendor Fujitsu for correct settings and limitation information.
