Applies to:

Exalytics In-Memory Machine X2-4 - Version All Versions and later
Oracle Exalytics Software - Version 1.0.0.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After upgrading the Exalytics server to Patchset 3 (image version 1.0.0.5.0), the imageinfo command is not showing the expected results.
Running the command shows version 1.0.0.4.0 even though the firmware and image updates were applied and the server was rebooted.

# /opt/exalogic/usr/sbin/imageinfo
Exalogic 1.0.0.4.0 (build:r)

Image version : 1.0.0.4.0
Image build version :
Creation timestamp : 2013-06-19 11:28:36 +0000
Kernel version : 2.6.32-100.23.1.el5

Cause

Exalytics PS3 introduced a new command for obtaining the version details.  The new command is "exalytics_imageinfo."  Running the old command "imageinfo" will not cause errors, but will report incorrect version.

Exalytics Patchset 3 (PS3) creates a new sub-directory for "/opt/exalytics/bin/exalytics_imageinfo" and a new command name (exalytics_imageinfo). If the command is run from the old (pre-PS3 install) directory location, (/opt/exalogic/usr/sbin/imageinfo), it will not correctly report the version details.

NOTE: In PS3, the directory path references "exalytics" instead of "exalogic" and the actual command is now called "exalytics_imageinfo" instead of "imageinfo."

Solution

You may verify the image version by running the "exalytics_imageinfo" command from the location like:

/opt/exalytics/bin/exalytics_imageinfo

NOTE: Please note that the imageinfo versions may vary depending on how you upgraded the image software.

If you upgraded the server via Patch 16915563 ORACLE EXALYTICS BASE IMAGE 1.0.0.5 FOR LINUX X86-64 UPGRADE UTILITY, you will see results like:

# /opt/exalytics/bin/exalytics_imageinfo
Image version : 1.0.0.5
Creation timestamp : Wed 19 Jun 2013 12:26:49 PM BST
Kernel version : 2.6.32-100.23.1.el5

RPM versions:
kernel-2.6.32-100.23.1.el5
exalytics-container-bm-1.0.0.5-23
exalytics-scripts-1.0.0.5-36
exalytics-flash-1.0.0.5-42

If you upgraded the server by downloading Oracle Exalytics Software Media Pack for Linux x86-64, Release 1.0.0.3.0, Part # B65876-10, from Oracle Software Delivery Cloud (E-Delivery), you will see:

# /opt/exalytics/bin/exalytics_imageinfo
Image version : 1.0.0.5ps3
Creation timestamp : Thu 01 Aug 2013 05:11:26 AM EDT
Kernel version : 2.6.32-100.23.1.el5

RPM versions:
kernel-2.6.32-100.23.1.el5
exalytics-container-bm-1.0.0.5ps3-34
exalytics-scripts-1.0.0.5ps3-52
exalytics-flash-1.0.0.5ps3-58

The above version differences occur due to software packaging differences and timing of when each software update was available.
The Patch was the initial release of the PS3 software, and the Oracle Exalytics Software Media Pack for Linux x86-64, Release 1.0.0.3.0 was released several weeks later.
There are no actual code differences between each of these updates, but the Media Pack included extra "hooks" to reflect Patchset level (i.e. 'ps3') in the version details.
