Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The platform messages show:

A high ambient temperature has been detected. The ambient temperature detected is 26.00c; should be 15.00c to 25.00c.
An out-of-range ambient temperature had been detected, but it has now returned to a temperature within the acceptable range.

In this example, the warning occurred on an SC Peripheral board, but this error could be displayed for other components with a temperature sensor.

If the issue is ongoing, you will also notice the status in showenvironment output:

SCPER At SCPER1 ... HIGH_WARN

Changes

No changes have occurred since 2010 when the high ambient temperature detected.

Cause

The following could be the cause of the high ambient temperature event
- insufficient air flow needed to cool the SCPER board
- the current data center environment does not have sufficient cooling power to meet the operating requirement of the platform
- an onboard temperature sensor fault

Solution

Follow the service manual to clean the filter(s) as indicated in document 817-4138-XX,   Chapter 18.

If after cleaning the filter and/or verifying the data center thermal environmental values are correct,

the component may need to replaced for a sensor issue. In the example above, the ambient temperature was

slightly out of specification which contributed to the SCPER temperature warning.
