Symptoms

Solaris 10 KU 147440-04 or later T4/T5 class servers which support 2 GB pagesize can encounter a system hang or performance issue with Oracle DB startup (application hang or taking significantly longer) if DISM is used.

Cause

This is caused by a regression introduced in Kernel patch 147440-04 (or later) by a fix for:
BUG 15726309 - SOLARIS_11 Need to enable 2GB page size support by default

Solution

Please apply official patch 150400-02 or later.

A workaround is available by setting the following in /etc/system:

set disable_ism_large_pages=0x74

A reboot is required to make the change effective.
