X3-2L (12 disk) service label on the cover of all X3-2L systems shipped to date have and incorrect SAS expander to DBP cabling diagram.

The Service label that is pictured in the SSH shows the incorrect routing of the SAS cables from SAS Expander to Disk Backplanes as well as the Rear HDD's

Symptoms

If the cabling follows the service label, then your cables are most likely routed incorrectly.

On Exadata,  turning on a disk service led, you may notice an LED is lit on the wrong physical disk.

Cause

The Service label has the SAS cables and the RHDD cables documented incorrectly.

The Sun System Handbook (SSH) also has a picture of the incorrect service label.

Solution

Please open the attachment to view the correct cable routing.

The correct SAS expander to DBP cabling is below:

SAS2 - DBP2 - HDD8-11

SAS1 - DBP1 - HDD4-7

SAS0 - DBP0 - HDD0-3

The label also has the RHDD ports on the SAS expander reversed as well.

RHDD0 port should be the one closest to the DBP ports and the RHDD1 should be the port farthest from the DBP ports like this:

RHDD1

RHDD0

While we are talking about cabling lets make sure the RAID card ports are cabled like this:

RAID HBA SAS0 - SASExp HBA0

RAID HBA SAS1 - SASExp HBA1

Engineering is working on getting the service label corrected.
