Applies to:Sun Storage 6580 Array - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Sun Storage 2540 Array - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A] Sun Storage 2530-M2 Array - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A] Sun Storage 2510 Array - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A] Sun Storage 6780 Array - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Information in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsWhen carrying out configuration changes in a Sun Storage 2500, 2500-M2 or 6000 Array using Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM), CAM might return the error message "The operation cannot be completed because you did not provide a valid password" if you use the browser user interface (BUI), or "Authentication failed - incorrect password" if you use the command line (CLI). Example when using the CLI: bash-3.2# service -d <arrayname> -c reset -t t85bat1
Executing the reset command on st2540-tvp540-d Completion Status: Authentication failed - incorrect password bash-3.2#
The volume could not be created. The operation cannot be completed because you did not provide a valid password. Open the Storage Systems folder in the left hand navigational tree, click on the Administration folder, then click on Manage passwords and provide a valid Storage System password.
CauseIt is first important to understand the different passwords associated with a Sun Storage 2500, 2500-M2 or 6000 Array. Please refer to <Document 1012351.1> Passwords Associated with Sun Storage RAID Arrays. By default all the new Storage Arrays are delivered with no array password, which means that it is blank.
An array password provides access to an array. When you set the password, the management software stores an encrypted copy of the password in its array registration database locally and in the array metadata (DACstore). Thereafter, the management software can perform modification operations on the array without a password challenge. You can change the array password at any time. When you change the password on one management host, only the array registration database used by that management host is updated with the changed password. Before another management host can perform modification operations on that array, the array registration database for that management host must also be updated with the new password. Solution
