Symptoms

A failed FAN TRAY must be replaced to insure proper platform operation.

Cause

Each of the members of the Highend Platform Family(12K/15K/E20K/E25K) contain FAN TRAYS.
On detection of a Fan failure, you must contact your authorized Sun[TM] Service representative to have any failed FAN TRAY replaced.

Solution

The SMS "showenvironments" command will display the status of the FAN TRAYS.  Partial output from this command is contained in the example below:
Note: All command output may vary slightly depending on type of platform.

FANTRAY   POWER    SPEED     FAN0  FAN1  FAN2  FAN3  FAN4  FAN5
------    ------   -----     ----  ----  ----  ----  ----  ----
FT0       ON       NORMAL    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK
FT1       ON       NORMAL    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK
FT2       ON       NORMAL    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK
FT3       ON       NORMAL    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK
FT4       ON       NORMAL    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK
FT5       ON       NORMAL    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK
FT6       ON       NORMAL    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK    FAIL  >>>>>>>fail
FT7       ON       NORMAL    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK    OK

This example shows FAN 5 has a failed FT6. Messages are logged in the SMS platform messages file (/var/opt/SUNWSMS/adm/platform/messages) at the time of failure.
Example messages for the above failures are shown below:
