Symptoms

Customer loaded cleaning carts into the library, but drives are not getting cleaned and backup failures are happening.

Drives are not getting cleaned even though cleaning media is available inside the library.

Cause

Cleaning cartridges are loaded into the library. Drives are loading the cleaning media, but its not getting cleaned. Subsequently backup jobs are also getting failed.

Customer loaded brand new cartridges after labelling it with Data Cartridge labels.

Solution

1.Generate the below mentioned logs from SL Console for analysis. Identify the events related to drive cleaning.

Tools -- Reports -- Log -- EventLog -- Error Warn Info -- Save.

2.Generate the cartridge summary report and check for the cleaning media.

Tools -- Reports -- Status Summary -- Cartridge Summary -- Save.

No properly labelled cleaning media is listed in the cartridge summary. Customer might be using compatible cleaning carts with data cartridge labels.

Cleaning cartridges require different labels to distinguish them from data cartridges.

Customer need to add correctly Labeled LTO Cleaning carts to the SL500, labeled as CLNUxxCU.
