Symptoms

- Customer has reported these errors against the infiniband interfaces:

# ifconfig ib0
Loading kernel module for a network device with CAP_SYS_MODULE (deprecated).  Use CAP_NET_ADMIN and alias netdev-ib0 instead
ib0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

 

# ifconfig ib1
Loading kernel module for a network device with CAP_SYS_MODULE (deprecated).  Use CAP_NET_ADMIN and alias netdev-ib1 instead
ib1: error fetching interface information: Device not found


- The file 'CheckHWnFWProfile.log' ( from the sundiag report) showed no Infiniband HCA found :

[INFO] ### 17:25-18-Jul:2013 Started /opt/oracle.SupportTools/CheckHWnFWProfile -c loose
[FATAL] No Mellanox Technologies Infiniband Host Channel Adaptor (HCA) found
[FATAL] Can not continue. See exceptions above

 
- The HCA messages above also coincided with these messages in the '/var/log/messages' :

Jul 13 10:17:57 xdt1dbadm02 kernel: RDS: rds_bind() could not find a transport, load rds_tcp or rds_rdma?

 

Changes

 None.

Cause

 Faied Infiniband card.

Solution

 It's likely the Infiniband card needs replacing , the Exadata Hardware specialists will review the sundiag output and decide what the next action is.
