Symptoms

SMB shares are intermittently inaccessible. May seem like certain systems and not others.

At least an initial connection to the share is usually possible.

You may see "network path not found" message on Windows clients.

To discuss this information further with Oracle experts and industry peers, we encourage you to review, join or start a discussion in the My Oracle Support Community - Disk Storage ZFS Storage Appliance

Cause

There is a compatibility issue between Windows and the ZFS Storage appliance with regard to the handling of connections which specify a virtual circuit number of zero.

This occurs when multiple SMB connections are made to the same resource using different names, e.g. hostname, FQDN, IP address.

This can also occur when multiple names exist for the server or share within DNS or naming services.

Solution

A workflow to apply a workaround for this issue is available from Oracle Support.   Contact Oracle support and reference Bug:15691954

Check the ZFSSA support wiki for the workflow. The workflow sets the smb/server property "smbd/enforce_vczero" to false, then refreshes and restarts the SMB server service.

This changes our handling of this case to match the Windows default.

Please be sure to check the above referenced bug to ensure that this workaround remains necessary.
