In this Document
Created from <SR 3-7496756474> Applies to:Big Data Appliance Hardware - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Big Data Appliance X5-2 Starter Rack - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Linux x86-64 SymptomsOn an Oracle Big Data Appliance Cluster, running bdacheckcluster, to verify the health of the cluster, reports a informational message like below: "bda1node02: INFO: Errors reported on disk 7 : 8 0"
Note that further investigation to view the physical drive information with "MegaCli64 pdlist a0", on the node in question can confirm "media" errors. Run the MegaCli64 command as root. In the sample output here, on bda1node02, run "MegaCli64 pdlist a0". Check the output for disk 7. Note the "Media Error Count" of 8, but no other errors. # MegaCli64 pdlist a0
PD: 0 Information Enclosure Device ID: 20 Slot Number: 7 ... Media Error Count: 8 Other Error Count: 0 Predictive Failure Count: 0 ... Drive has flagged a S.M.A.R.T alert : No
Neither the bdacheckhw nor bdachecksw utilities report any errors. CauseThe informational message "Errors reported on disk 7 : 8 0" indicates that "media" errors have been logged on the disk. Such errors do not indicate a failure nor do they indicate anything concerning about the health of the disk or it's ability to function normally. Such errors simply count the number of times a single I/O transaction has failed. The most common cause of such failures are read/write errors (which can be recoverable or unrecoverable) which include things like issuing an invalid command on the disk (e.g. issuing a command requesting some function the disk does not support). SolutionInformational messages like "INFO: Errors reported on disk 7 : 8 0" can be ignored. There is no cause for concern nor does the disk need to be replaced.
