Symptoms
Cannot initialize blank tapes using VTCS. VSM logs may show FSC 3627 sense data and assert message at the same time period.
Cause
Assert is occurring in the VTSS hardware. This causes the re-initialize process to end. The drive you will see RSCN and PLOGI issued to it on the FICON interface after a Perform Subsystem Function (PSF) or Read Subsystem Data (RSD) command.
Solution
If this is on a CISCO FICON have the customer open a problem with their switch maintainer. Cisco has a firmware change in version v5.2(8a) to address this issue. they may want to reference Cisco problem number 626540351.
