Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1564298.1 : Sun Storage 2500, 2500-M2, and 6000 Arrays: Failed Disk Alarm Not Removed After Disk Replacement
Created from <SR 3-7386744141> Applies to:Sun Storage 2510 Array - Version Not Applicable and laterSun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) - Version 6.5 and later Sun Storage 6580 Array - Version All Versions and later Sun Storage 2530-M2 Array - Version Not Applicable and later Sun Storage 2540-M2 Array - Version Not Applicable and later Information in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsAfter replacing a disk, the disk is seen as Optimal, is working properly, and there are no symptoms of disk failure. Nevertheless, the alarm on the disk is not automatically cleared from Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM). Example: Although the disk at Tray.85.Drive.08 is seen as Optimal after the replacement... ...the alarm is not removed: Alarm ID : alarm90
Please note that the scenario described in this document specifically refers to those disk failure alarms that are not cleared automatically by the disk replacement. If you encountered an alarm for an undefined fault on a good disk, please refer to <Document 1562533.1> Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) Generates an Alarm for an "Undefined Fault"
CauseThere are various possible causes:
SolutionSTEP 1 Re-register the array in CAM to try to clear the stale alarm. First, please check if multiple CAM instances are in use. Administering the array from multiple CAM instances may generate discrepancies and lead to stale configurtation information. If this is your case:
If there is only a single instance of CAM, then simply unregister and re-register the array on the same host.
If STEP 1 did not remove the alarm, please move to STEP 2. STEP 2 It may be possible that the new drive has been assigned to an empty VDISK. This scenario is covered and solved in <Document 1496245.1> Failed Drive Alarm May Not Clear Automatically After Drive Replacement When Drive is Assigned to an Empty VDISK If this is not your case, or if STEP 2 did not remove the alarm, please move to STEP 3. STEP 3 It may be possible that something went wrong during the disk replacement. There may have been a problem with not following the correct procedure, for example. Please review <Document 1311770.1> CAM - How to Remove and Replace Disk Drive [Video]:ATR:2361:0. In order to remove the alarm, it may be necessary to perform a dummy replacement of the disk, replacing the disk with itself. If the disk is classified as a FRU (Field Replaceable Unit), please contact your local Oracle Support to request assistance. If the disk is classified as a CRU (Customer Replaceable Unit), you can either contact your local Oracle Support for assistance or proceed to perform the dummy replacement. As the procedure for the dummy replacement will be the same as for the replacement of disks flagged as Impending Failure, please check the following document for full details of the procedure: <Document 1311776.1> CAM - How to Remove and Replace Midrange Disk Impending Disk Failure:ATR:2362:2. Should the alarm still persist, please contact Oracle Support.
