Solution 1564204.1 : VTL - Export job failed after bad physical cartridge in the tape library is replaced

Symptoms

When physical cartridge in tape library was broken, customer replaced the bad cartridge with a good cartridge
and reuse the same barcode label. After the replacement, the migration process failed with error when data was
migrated from the same virtual volume to new physical cartridge.

Changes

Replace bad cartridge in tape library with a new cartridge with the same barcode.

Cause

VTL cannot find the last written data on the new physical tape to append data.

Solution

The solution, please execute the following steps:

1) Duplicate the Virtual-tape SZ1501 from backup software to another Virtual-tape as SZ1502
2) Delete the Virtual-tape SZ1501
3) Replace bad physical cartridge with a new one and reuse old barcode.
4) Recreate the Virtual-tape SZ1501
5) Duplicate the Virtual-tape SZ1502 to the new Virutal-Tape SZ1501
6) Then export the Virtual-tape SZ1501 to the new physical SZ1501

OR

1) Replace bad physical cartridge in the tape lbirary with a new one and reuse old barcode.
2) In the object tree of the VTL console, right‐click on a virtual tape cache.
Select Migrate to Physical Tape from the context menu.

Note that all data on the physical tape is overwritten.
