Solution 1563723.1 : VTL - Cannot move a physical tape in or out of a physical drive from VTL console

Symptoms

Cannot move a physical tape from a slot to a physical drive

Cannot move a physical tape from a physical drive to a slot

Cannot move a physical tape

Changes

Physical library was hard reset

Cause

Lost power to the physical library with tapes in the drive

Physical library was not gracefully powered off and back on without removing the tape

Solution

If the physical library was powered off or lost power with tapes still in the drives, the tapes may not eject and will be out of sync with the VTL Appliance upon restoration of power. The following may need to be perfomed if the tapes cannot be moved in our out of a physical drive via the VTL console GUI. In addition to the console move failed error, the following messages below will be found in the messages file.

1. Obtain an xray and create a service request with the Oracle backline support team to confirm the issue.

2. Remove the physical tapes from each of the drives in question.

3. Run a physical library inventory.

4. Run an inventory of the physical library from the VTL console.

5. Log into the VTL console and move a tape to and from each of the physical drives.

6. Have the customer check their import and export jobs to make sure all is operational.
