7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks)

Symptoms

  • System hard hang
  • Issue occurred while running a 'network trace/packet capture' utility - snoop
  • Appliance is below ak-2011.1.4.0 release
  • Customer had to connect to the ILOM and do a power cycle to boot up the machine.

Cause

This is a known issue.  There is a race condition between ipnet_close() and ipobs_hook() where the system can deadlock.

This is bug 15744932 SUNBT7096339-SOLARIS_11U1 deadlock possible between ipnet_close and ipnet_dispatch

 

Solution

This issue is fixed in Appliance Firmware Release ak-2011.1.4.0 and later.


To download the latest Appliance Firmware Release:

Sign in/log in to my oracle support: https://support.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html

  • Select from top set of tabs, "Patches & Updates"
  • Do a search by product family:
    • Product is: Sun ZFS Storage Appliance
    • Release is: Sun ZFS Storage 7000 Software 2011.1

 

  • Select the latest release of Sun ZFS Storage 7000 Software 2011.1 Update for All Supported Platforms
  • Click Search button
  • Download the zip file, pnnnnnnn Generic.zip, to your local system.
  • Unzip the file
    • Inside of the directory there are license files and the actual software update with the file name similar to:  ak-nas-2011-04-24-n-n-n-nn.pkg.gz


Download the *.gz file to the NAS.

Then follow the upgrade procedure outlined in the following document:
