SymptomsCustomer reports a power supply issue. Checking the environmentals using the following commands showenvironment (ALOM) or show -d properties -level all /SYS/<PS#> (ILOM), in the section of the power supplies you can see a failed power supply: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Power Supplies: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Supply Status Fan_Fault Temp_Fault Volt_Fault Cur_Fault -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /SYS/PS0 OK OFF OFF OFF OFF /SYS/PS1 OK OFF OFF OFF OFF /SYS/PS2 FAILED OFF OFF ON OFF /SYS/PS3 OK OFF OFF OFF OFF There's also an amber LED active for a power supply fault, also from showenvironment: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
System Indicator Status: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /SYS/LOCATE /SYS/SERVICE /SYS/ACT OFF ON ON -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /SYS/PS_FAULT /SYS/TEMP_FAULT /SYS/FAN_FAULT ON OFF OFF Occasionally, you may also find entries in /var/adm/messages file with following: Apr 19 06:09:30 <host> SC Alert: [ID 325448 daemon.alert] IPMI | critical: ID = d : 04/19/2012 : 12:48:26 : Voltage : /PS2/AC_POK : State Deasserted
Apr 19 06:09:30 <host> SC Alert: [ID 769395 daemon.alert] IPMI | critical: ID = e : 04/19/2012 : 12:48:27 : Power Supply : /PS2/FAIL : State Asserted ChangesIf Power Circuit or Power Cord is interrupted from the source to the server, System Admins may generate Service Requests for investigation. CauseIn the above example, the fault is in power supply /SYS/PS2. The reason is a failure in the voltage sensors, as seen in prtdiag -v: Voltage indicators:
------------------------------------------------------------ Location Indicator Condition ------------------------------------------------------------ SYS/MB/SP V_+3VBATT ok SYS/PS0 AC_POK ok SYS/PS0 DC_POK ok SYS/PS0 VOLT_FAULT ok SYS/PS1 AC_POK ok SYS/PS1 DC_POK ok SYS/PS1 VOLT_FAULT ok SYS/PS2 AC_POK ok SYS/PS2 DC_POK fail SYS/PS2 VOLT_FAULT fail SYS/PS3 AC_POK ok SYS/PS3 DC_POK ok SYS/PS3 VOLT_FAULT ok
Jun 10 00:00:08 <host> SC Alert: [ID 435534 daemon.notice] Chassis | minor: POK Glitch: /SYS/PS2
Sometimes input power problems are related to an interruption of a server's input power possibly due to a popped breaker or loose power cord. Example messages shown: Apr 19 06:09:42 <host> SC Alert: [ID 209813 daemon.alert] Fault | critical: SP detected fault at time Thu Apr 19 12:48:46 2012. Input power unavailable for PSU at PS2
Apr 19 06:09:43 <host> SC Alert: [ID 665882 daemon.alert] Fault | critical: SP detected fault at time Thu Apr 19 12:48:48 2012. Generic Powersupply fault at PS2 asserted SolutionThe solution to the above is thus: 1) Check the cables and power outlets and make sure they are working properly. 2) Reseat the power supply 3) If the above don't resolve the issue, open a service request with Oracle Support and collect the following data: explorer output + ilom snapshot
