Applies to:

Exalytics In-Memory Machine X2-4 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Using Oracle Exalytics and can successfully login to the ILOM via the web interface.
Once logged in via the ILOM web interface, the remote console can be launched in the java applet and the CLI environment can be accessed.

Can also login to the Exalytics server operating system as non-root user via Tera Term VT (freeware terminal tool).
Once logged in can run -> ssh -X root@host and get connected to the ILOM CLI environment.

If a direct connection to the ILOM, via Tera Term VT, and root user is attempted, the connection fails.

Cause

This is expected behavior.

Solution

On an Oracle Exalytics server, you may connect to the ILOM as the "root" user via any of the following methods:

  • Use web browser and connect to the ILOM web interface.
For example, open your web browser and go to address using format shown:

https://yourexalyticsserver-ilom.domain.com/iPages/i_login.asp  [where your actual Exalytics hostname and domain are specified]

  • Once connected to the web interface, you can launch remote console. This is a java applet that allows you to connect directly to the CLI interface.

  • Connect to your Exalytics server as "oracle" or other user via putty, or other terminal utility. Once connected to the server, you can use an SSH command to connect as root to the CLI interface.

    For example:

    ssh -X root@host

For more information on using the ILOM, please see Chapter 6 Using Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) in the Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine Owner's Guide Exalytics X2-4 Release 1 (1.0).
More detailed ILOM specific information is available in the Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) 3.0, Daily Management – Web Procedures Guide.
