Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) on Microsoft Windows could happen during system boot. The BSOD is of type STOP: 0x0000007b which means "inaccessible boot device".

Blue screen

Changes

The problem occurs after a reset of BIOS setting. A reset of BIOS setting will be caused by either BIOS upgrade or a removal of a coin battery or clear CMOS setting by BIOS menu.

Cause

The problem occurs due to the default SATA BIOS settings changing from IDE to AHCI mode.

Solution

This setting must remain the same as the setting which was used when the OS was installed. The fix is to change the BIOS setting to "IDE".

1. Power on the workstation.

2. Perform the following steps to set the system BIOS for Windows:

a. Press the F2 key at the Sun logo screen to enter the BIOS Setup menu.

b. Go to Advanced => Integrated Devices.

c. Change the setting to "IDE"

3. Press the F10 key to save your changes and exit the system BIOS.
