Symptoms

After powering on first time some of the Sun Server X3-2 Compute Nodes in a brand new Exalogic Rack Machine, fail to load.  The Service Processor (SP) is stuck at "ILOM Pre-boot menu" as follows.

Sometimes you can type boot and SP comes back but then later it ends up back at Preboot Menu.

ILOM Pre-boot Menu
  ------------------
Type "h" and [Enter] for a list of commands, or "?" [Enter] for
command-line key bindings. Type "h cmd" for summary of 'cmd' command.

The host is ON (hostWantsPwr=1, powerGood=1,

Solution

1. Check the Locater LED light and Power Button to make sure they out. Preboot menu will be entered into if this is in the ON position. If this looks OK go to step 2.

2. Unplug the Power Cables for this Server. Let the System Power off for couple of minutes. Then plug them back in. If this does not resolve continue to step 3.

3. If issues remains, re-flash the ILOM's

If above solution still not resolved the stuck "Pre-boot Menu", please contact Oracle Customer Support with a Service Request.
