Changes

Switch modification (code upgrade) on the customer network

Cause

After a switch modification (code upgrade) VSM IP C-Link communications failed.
Problem could also show up as a problem on VSM5 to VLE vRTD communication failure.

Other possible causes that can result in this issue:

1. Faulty switch.
2. Modification (code upgrade) to the switch.
3. After a switch modification/replacement, improper reset of the IFF card.
4. Bad IFF card

If the error is the result of (1) or (2). then there is a possibility that the IFF card might not have gotten reset properly after the switch work was done.

Solution

  1. Have the switch vendor check the switch - if a recent code upgrade was done it may be necessary to downgrade the code.
  2. Check for the physical cable and switch ports
  3. If you see “inbound connection lost” errors messages logging consistently, check the IFF cards.
    1. Validate IFF IP Path
    2. First try the less disruptive and quicker step of doing a GFR No Replace of the associated IFF card in the VLE machine that is reporting the dropped connections. The GFR No Replace might correct the issue with dropped connections.
    3. If  GFR No Replace does not resolve the issue, replace the IFF cards.
