Symptoms

Standby LED is Lit, Amber, on HBT card, entire Library is out of Production.

Cause

Ethernet Switch is dead.

Solution

3Com Switch, 15 ports, the internal PSU (Power Supply Unit) is not functional and needs to be replaced. Replaced the failed 3com with a customer´s Cisco with no problems.

SL8500 - Loss of PDU-1 Will Cause Library to Become Inoperative (ID 1381938.1)

The old versions of SL8500 came with a 3com 16 port Switch (3C16470) with no redundant internal PSU, the new ones have 32 ports with redundant internal PSU (32-Port Ethernet Switch Assembly, PUE).

This is a brief resume of steps/checks executed on site by FE.

- Reboot via OP (SLC) OK.
- Power off/on LSM 2 OK
- System Power Off/on. OK
- Logging on OP (SLC) failed => cannot connect to server.
- Logging via SLC on HBC ok.
- Extract snapshot log and error log ok.

- Logging via CLI and typing commands like:

- FE onsite to check and replace power supplies Address: 1,0,0,1,23 and 1,0,0,1,24.
These PS were switched between other LSMs. Checked OK
- Access Doors, Safety door, Emergency red button (robotics Stop). All checked OK.
Relays (noise "clank" ok) opening or closing switches over all devices OK on HBN.
- HBN Power on Led. Checked Green light OK.
- Replace HBT card, replaced OK => same behavior as the original one. Roll back of HBT (previous one) ok.
- Disconnect all handbots on all LSMs OK.
- Disconnect and remove partially all tape drives. OK
- Power off/on ECM and reboot. OK
- Switch on/off all LSM HBS modules. OK
