Information in this document applies to any platform.

SL3000, config is AEM | CEM | BASE | CEM | AEM.
The current issue is that the drive 1,1,3,1,1 Bay 2 has gone 'offline' and failed to host and SLConsole multiple times in the last 2 months.
All 3 times the tray 'appeared' to be powered on but tape had not rewound and was not ejected.
Tape drive ( HP LTO4 ) was replaced on suspicion last time. Manually ejected the tape and the returned the drive to service.
Customer will monitor and next plan is to swap 2 drive trays to see if the fault follows the tray or stays with the drive bay.
One thing noticed was that all of the drive trays despite being "latched" correctly, were all 3 to 5 mm out of position, ie all drive trays could be pushed further into the housing.
Is this expected that over time the trays can 'creep' outwards ?

Symptoms

SL3000/ LTO - Drive Trays "Moving' Within the Drive Bays,  Gone Offline and Failed to Host / SLC Multiple Times.

Cause

Drive trays are not seated tightly in library due to loose drive/tray latch.

Solution

Verify drive tray.

1. Determine if the drive trays are in firmly latched positions.
2. Check if the drive trays placement at the back of the library are correctly aligned.  All drive trays should be aligned with each other and should not protrude or be further inside of the
  drive slot.
3. Check if the drive bays are properly aligned inside the library by checking the bezel placement. This should be aligned with the top portion of the drives slots. Also be sure that the drives are not hanging loose outside or inside the drive Slot.
4. If a drive tray is misaligned or loose, remove it and try to reposition it.

5. Verify the Drive Tray Latch Assembly is mounted correctly onto the tray.  If the latch assembly appears to be damaged, order a replacement.

Note: The drive tray assembly is not a FRU.  If a replacement is required, the 'No Parts Process' will be required.
