Applies to:

Sun StorageTek VTL Prime System - Version 1.0 - Build 1813 to 1.1 - Build 2076 [Release 1.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Deduplication was not working...lots of error messages were coming on the Index folder

Cause

The Index directory was full

The deduplication was running fine for long time - each time it runs, it puts index entry in the directory - hence gets full with time

Solution

All these messages are because  the SIR storage folder is  running out of space.

Expired tapes needs to be re-labeled and then trigger the space reclamation from VTL console.

The following explains the detail on how to expire and remove any older backups from VTL Cache and SIR db.
Checklist of items to be performed:
1. Expire/remove the backup tapes from backup application
2. Delete the virtual tapes associated with this (these) backups from VTL
3. Run Space Reclamation on the VTL cache
4. Run Space Reclamation on the Data portion of the SIR db
5. Run Index Pruning on the Index portion of other SIR db
6. Re-create virtual tapes and assign to backup application for use
