SL150 Cannot be seen. Drives in the library can be seen and added to NBU but library cannot be seen. Robtest cannot see the TLD device.

SL150

Symptoms

Unable to see the SL150 from Netbackup 7.1.0.4.

LT05 Drives are seen and can be configured into Netbackup.

Robtest shows "TLD(5) cannot be found".

Host Configuration Manager switch software shows library seen but with no OS device name (is blank). Other libraries on the same switch loop show OS device names.

Library is seen at device level in Windows Enterprise 2008 R2 OS

"Unknown Media Changer" being used.

SL150 has no apparent errors.

Diagnostic steps taken by customer

1. Power down sl150
2. Power down media servers
3. Powered up sl150 - 'displays online'
4. Started each media server sequentially
5. Robot appears in both media server as 'unknown changer'
6. Run 'Robtest' from cmd line on media servers. TLD(5) cannot be found.
7. Drives can be seen and added in NetBackup. But robot cannot be seen.

Changes

The library was installed in the rack a few months ago and has been idle and not connected during this period as customer was waiting for a new fibre switch to be installed. This work was completed and switch zoned.

On Initial startup, errors were seen in SL150:

Robot was replaced but connection issues with TLD(5) unaffected.

SL150 Microcode updated to 1.82 as attempt at resolution.

Switch Upgrade to 6.4.2a as attempt at resolution.

HP LTO5 drivers upgraded to 1.0.7.0 as attempt at resolution.

Cause

Corrupt NBU configuration. 

Solution

All instructions refer to NBU commands.

1. Remove the Media storage units concerned from the Master Server...

nbemmcmd –deletealldevices –allrecords

2. Use the Configure Storage Devices wizard to re-configure storage devices
