Sun Fire X4170 M2 Server - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Applies to X4170 M2 and X4270 M2

Symptoms

ILOM turns on the system fault LED, and the system will not boot showing no output. ILOM snapshot may show either "Memory : BIOS : Configuration Error : MRC error Major 0xE8" or an ereport for "fault.memory.intel.dimm.none" implying it has no working memory.

ILOM FMA output may show output like:

Fault class : fault.memory.intel.dimm.none

FRU         : /SYS/MB
            (Part Number: 511-1213-07)
            (Serial Number: 0328MSL-1233BA3HCT)

Description : Memory DIMMs are not populated.

Response    : BIOS forwards error telemetry to the SP for diagnosis and
            logging in ILOM event log.

Impact      : The entire memory subsystem is unusable and there is no video
            output.

Action      : The administrator should review the ILOM event log for
additional information pertaining to this diagnosis.  Please
refer to the Details section of the Knowledge Article for
            additional information.

Cause

After reset /SYS, SP doesn't set the right status of SMBUS_mux pin. So BIOS
can't get the SPD data, and system can't detect any DIMM, the system hangs.

Solution

Workaround: Perform a complete power cycle of the system by removing the AC power cords for several minutes, then re-applying AC power and rebooting the system. Repeat if first attempt does not succeed.

Resolution: Fixed in SW1.6.1 release.
