Symptoms
Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) does not allow mapping new Sun Storage 6180, 6580, 6780, 2540-M2 or 2530-M2 volumes to individual hosts or host groups. The symptoms are usually both of the following:
- While going through the mapping procedure, individual hosts or host groups are not presented.
- When looking at the licenses on the array, the StorageDomain license is disabled. You can list the licenses using one of the following method.
List the licenses using the CAM Command Line (CLI)
- Execute the following command on the CAM server:
sscs list -a <arrayname> license
The sscs command can be found in these locations, depending on your operating system.
Solaris: /opt/SUNWstkcam/bin/
Linux: /opt/sun/cam/bin/
Windows: C:\Program Files\Sun\Common Array Manager\bin
Example:
# sscs list -a myarray license

List the licenses using the CAM Browser User Interface (BUI)
- Open CAM in your browser.
- Select the array.
- Go to Administration -> Licensing.

Cause
Sun Storage 6180, 6580, 6780, 2540-M2 and 2530-M2 Arrays with the new firmware 07.84.xx.xx require CAM 6.9.0_20 or higher. CAM 6.9.0_20 is the first release compatible with this firmware level. Any older version of CAM will not communicate correctly with the array and will lead to unexpected behaviors, such as the inability to see the licenses, especially the storage domain license for the volume mapping to hosts and/or host groups.
Please refer to <Document 1526721.1> Minimum Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) Release Supported with the Firmware 07.84.xx.xx.
There may also be other reasons for mapping problems, as described in <Document 1012657.1> Sun Storage[TM] 2500 and 6000 RAID Arrays: Cannot Create or Change a Volume Mapping.
Solution
- Verify your version of CAM. Please refer to <Document 1011180.1> How to determine the version of Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM).
- Verify your array firmware level. Please refer to <Document 1021067.1> How to Verify Sun Storage[TM] Array Firmware Using Sun Storage Common Array Manager or SANtricity.
- If you have firmware 07.84 or a CAM release below 6.9.0_20, please refer to the <Document 1526721.1> Minimum Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) Release Supported with the Firmware 07.84.xx.xx for the solution.
- If you have either firmware below 07.84 or CAM below 6.9.0_20 and are experiencing problems mapping volumes, please refer to the <Document 1002514.1> Collecting Sun Storage Common Array Manager Array Support Data to collect a supportdata and then open a new SR with the Oracle support.
