Symptoms

SL3000 - FRS-4.0 Code With AEM's Can Abandon Tapes or Hang a CAP (Cartridge Access Port)

Changes

Effective immediately, do not install FRS-4.0 code if a subsystem has AEMs installed.

Cause

 Microcode bug.

Solution

Under certain conditions Tall-Bots can leave tapes in the AEM CAPs and possibly hang a rotational CAP.  Future code will resolve this issue.

Possible workarounds if 4.0 is already installed with AEMs:

  • Use only one CAP at any one time (may minimize the exposure but does not eliminate it).
  • Vary one Tall-Bot offline from the SLC while using the AEM CAPs.
  • Upgrade to 4.40 firmware.
