Engineered Systems use the ILOM for diagnostics including HW and FW : On occasion you will want to clear older alerts to clean up this diagnostic information. This note provides the steps used to reset the alerts seen on the ILOM.
Applies to:
Sun Integrated LOM (ILOM) Service Processor - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release NA]
Oracle Database Appliance - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Exadata X5-2 Hardware - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Exadata X4-2 Hardware - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Exadata X3-2 Hardware - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
You may have an ILOM alert that you want to clear or you find a LED / light which appears to be stuck on
Changes
Wanting to clear old alerts and / or reset a warning light which appears to be out of sync with the alert messages or after a HW part replacement
An example would be if the LED / light stays on for the Oracle Database Appliance for an alert / warning which appears no longer appears as a problem via ILOM reporting
Cause
Alert not clearing
Light does not clear or alert needs clearing
Solution
Two options to clear ALERTs
Web Procedure – Clear System Component Faults
To clear the state of a faulted component ( after fixing or replacing the faulted component) in the web interface, perform these steps:
a. Click System Information --> Component.
b. Select the radio button that is adjacent to the faulty components,
--- then click
Clear Faults
Please confirm if this works
- If not
-- read the research section which confirms some problems fixed with newer widgets for ILOM

Using the command line CLI Procedure to Clear system component faults
1) please issue this command from the OS (on the ILOM): To clear the state of a faulty component (after fixing or replacing the faulted component), type:
-> set component_path clear_fault_action=true
Are you sure you want to clear component_path (y/n)? y
Set ‘clear_fault_action’ to ‘true
Where component_path is one of the following faulted components:
■ Host CPU (/SYS/MB/P#)
■ Memory Riser (/SYS/MB/P0/MR#)
■ DIMM (/SYS/MB/P0/MR0/D#)
■ Motherboard (/SYS/MB)
■ Fan module (/SYS/FM#)
■ Power supply (/SYS/PS#)
■ CMM (/CH/CMM)
■ NEM (/CH/NEM#)
■ PCI card (SYS/MB/PCIE#)
For example, to clear a fault on the host CPU, you would type the following
-> set /SYS/MB/P0 clear_fault_action=true
Are you sure you want to clear /SYS/MB/P0 (y/n)? y
Set ‘clear_fault_action’ to ‘true’
RESET a LED for an alert that appears to have already cleared
If you clearing the alerts are not resetting a light associated with a failure please issue this command from the OS to refresh the led light
This command will reboot the ILOM, it will not reboot the host OS.
# ipmitool bmc reset cold
Wait a few minutes to let the ILOM reset: After the ILOM returns the led light should be off.
If the led light is still on, then it is a true fault, and we (Oracle Support Services) need to look at ILOM snapshot data to find out which is causing the led light to be on.
COMMENT: IF your issue is specific to
ILOM Targets Raise Critical Power Supply Sensor Alerts - please refer to
ILOM Targets Raise Critical Power Supply Sensor Alerts In EM That Never Clear (Doc ID 1398378.1)
COMMENT: ILOMS actually exist on all engineered systems including ODA
ILOMs exist on each node of the ODA (or Exa*) - review and perform actions on all nodes as appropriate
If you need to investigate the problem further please Collect the ILOM snapshot
How to collect an ILOM snapshot?
- do the following:
1. Open a web browser.
2. Enter the IP address for the ILOM's Net Mgmt port.
3. Log into the ILOM's web GUI with the "root" account (the default password from the factory is "changeme" or for ODA is often welcome1).
4. Click the "Maintenance" tab.
5. Click on the "Snapshot" sub tab.
6. Make sure that "Normal" is selected and that "Logs Only" is Disabled or unchecked before clicking on the button to run the ILOM snapshot.
7. Save the .zip file (the ILOM snapshot output) to the local system from where you are running the web browser.
8. Please attach the snapshot to the Service Request
