Symptoms

 Append fails with FSC3927 REACHED_PEOV_AT_START_WRITE

FSC 3927

Permanent write error in Netbackup application with FSC 3927

RO_FSC_WRT_REACHED_pEOV_AT_START_WRITE in the drive eventlog.

Cause

Maximum capacity is disabled on the failing drive.

1. MAX CAPACITY is On on most drives.

2. Tapes are written that end before the normal capacity limit, but before the MAX CAPACITY for the tape.

3. One of those tapes is placed into a drive that has MAX CAPACITY OFF and the 1st write immediately gets a FSC 3927 (Cannot write due to beyond capacity limit).

Solution

Enable "Maximum Capacity" on the failing drive.

Notes:

- The Maximum Capacity feature is defaulted to "OFF".

- This Feature must be enabled on ALL drives to work properly in the system.

T10000C/D To change "Max Capacity" feature, use VOP.

 - Select Configure Drive Data and then select the Fibre Tab.  Make the desired selection for the feature and hit commit.  The drive will do a IPL/Reset and the feature will be changed.

T10000C/D To check if "Max Capacity" enabled:

 - Use VOP, select View Drive Data, and then select the Fibre Tab.  This will provide the status of the drive feature.

This can be checked while the drive is "Online"

Note that T10000B drives are also capable of writing tapes with Max Capacity enabled however it is turned on (on a per tape basis) using a Mode Set command from the host. There is no Max Capacity setting in VOP for a T10000B drive..
