Symptoms

After an Air conditioning issue, the Slammer, Pilot of Bricks can be in a Critical or Offline state

Cause

Temperature has unexpectedly increased in the server room due to the air conditioning issue.

.

Solution

The Axiom code uses temperature thresholds to decide the actions regarding temperature issues.
The Axiom is designed to work normally with a external temperature of +5C to +40C more details on the environmentals are available in the Service Guide that is available on the Axiom GUI in the Support --> Documentation.

Reaching one of the thresholds will produce the following action.
Lo-Warning: send an alert
Hi-Warning: Send an alert and increase fan speed
Lo-Critical and Hi-Critical: send alert and shut the component down
Any component reaching a critical temperature threshold and shutting itself off will need a power off / power on to come back online. However since FC bricks are still spinning, issuing a BRST 1234 on the RAID controller console will reset the brick without needing the power cycle the disks.

The bellow thresholds are internal thresholds temperature sensor and do not reflect the actual temperature in the server room,.

Temperature threshold may be subject to change in different firmware but stay in similar ranges.

Slammer Thresholds.

 Hi-CriticalHi-WarnLo-WarnLo-Critical
 Slammer  73  69  10  1

1C -- Critical low threshold the Slammer will shut down
65C -- warning threshold, fans spin up to full speed, but no event is sent until the temperature reaches 69C
69C -- send a warning event
73C -- critical threshold, slammer powers off.
55C -- hysteresis threshold. After a warning event, temperature must drop below 55C before  the fans return to normal speed.

Temperature threshold from which the bricks shut down are lower in order to protect the data. SATA disks are spun down and put offline by the firmware before the whole brick is shut down. The system alert of "RAID Array Offline" will be raised when a brick shuts down because of the temperature. At this point all LUNs with data on this brick will be unavailable.

***Please note that on FC bricks, even though the RAID array is offline, the disks are still spinning.
