This document applies to Network 10Gigabit Ethernet Switch 72p (OPUS TOR) and 24-Port 10-Gigabit Ethernet Switched Network Express Module (OPUS).
In these products, it is observed that getting into sefos is not possible under some special circumstances. In other words, ->cd /SYS/fs_cli (or -> cd /NEM/fs_cli in the case of NEM) hangs. It is also possible that loging into the ILOM itself may not be possible under certail special circumstances. It is also possible that the message "no space left on device" is displayed during this period. This is seen so far with these devices running firmware version lower than 1.2.1.8.

Symptoms

This document applies to Network 10Gigabit Ethernet Switch 72p (OPUS TOR) and 24-Port 10-Gigabit Ethernet Switched Network Express Module (OPUS).
In these products, it is observed that getting into sefos is not possible under some special circumstances.  In other words, ->cd /SYS/fs_cli  (or -> cd /NEM/fs_cli in the case of NEM) hangs.  It is also possible that loging into the ILOM itself may not be possible under certain special circumstances.  It is also possible that the message "no space left on device" is displayed during this period.

Cause

There is an issue of login sessions to sefos remaining open (never getting closed internally), and the process dumping core.  Cores are getting dumped too often and filling up the file system.  Once the file system gets full, the message "no space left on device" is displayed.  Further access to sefos (or ilom) gets affected.  Another possibility is the device having a wrong configuration.  However, deleting the current running configuration requires a factory reset.  As the access to sefos is not available, factory reset becomes difficult.

Solution

Once this problem is seen, the device has to be booted from the second partition, and then the firmware has to be upgraded to 1.2.2.1 or later, if this is a 72p Opus TOR switch.  Apply patch 13255111 to get this firmware.  This patch has the  fix for SEFOS login issue (Bug# 16263233).

Booting from second partition is described in an internal <Document 1508517.1> .  This is an internal document because this needs to be done by an Oracle Field Engineer.  Customers may open a case with Oracle Support to get this done by a Field Engineer.

Firmware version 1.2.2.1 is not yet available for Opus NEM.  So, do the same procedure as above, and reload firmware 1.2.1.8 after booting into second partition.

If the steps given above still do not help, the device (the opus tor switch or opus NEM) may have to be replaced.
