Applies to:

Sun StorageTek SL24 Tape Autoloader - Version Not Applicable and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Customer reporting they are unable to complete their backups running under Legato.

The SL24 has one drive only.

The SL24 dump log did not report any critical errors.

Cause

The SL24 log is showing both ports A and B Enabled. That means the library sees two host connected to the same library, which is not only not recommended but also not supported by Legato.

===================================================

Disconnect one of the fiber cables that communicate between the host and the library.   Retry the backups, and run the following commands in Solaris.

1. #cd /dev/rmt
2. #ls -l /dev/rmt/*cbn    ---you should show the link(s) for all /dev/rmt  devices
3. #pwd   --make sure your under /dev/rmt
4. # rm *
5. #ls /dev/rmt  ---you should have nothing listed.
6. #devfsadm
7.#ls -l /dev/rmt/*cbn    ---you should show the link(s) for /dev/rmt/.
8. Fix backup application  to use the correct /dev/rmt/ device(s)

If it still does not work, try rebooting the library and restarting the server after disconnecting one of the cables.

The above action resolved the issue.
