Symptoms

Following a SysFW upgrade various ILOM variables are reset to defaults, such as /HOST/bootmode config, and OBP env settings (boot device, auto-boot, etc).

  /HOST/bootmode
   Properties:
       config = factory-default
       expires = (none)
       script = setenv auto-boot? false
       state = normal

 /HOST/domain
   Properties:

 /HOST/domain/control
   Properties:
       auto-boot = enabled
       boot_guests = enabled

This is seen on upgrades between 8.2.0.a and 8.2.2.b, from 8.2.2.b onwards this issue is fixed.

Cause

Updates to the scvar database within ILOM would cause the entire DB to be reinitialised, resulting in all values reverting to default.

  Bug 15773298 "Preserve scvar values across scvars db version changes"

Solution

Take a backup of the ILOM config before starting the SysFW upgrade;

-> set /SP/config dump_uri=scp://root@1.2.3.4/tmp/config
Passphrase has not been entered. Sensitive data will not be backed-up.
Continue ? y
Enter remote user password: *********
Dump successful.

And reload from backup once the SysFW update is complete;

-> set /SP/config load_uri=scp://root@1.2.3.4/var/tmp/config

This can also be completed via the ILOM web interface.

Note: This issue is fixed in SysFW 8.2.2.b onwards.
