Symptoms

Unable to create any raid volumes greater than 2TB

Cause

Below example used 300GB disks

./arcconf CREATE 1 LOGICALDRIVE MAX 5 0,10 0,11 0,12 0,13 0,14 0,15 0,16 0,17
I get 1.75 TB.
./arcconf CREATE 1 LOGICALDRIVE MAX 5 0,10 0,11 0,12 0,13 0,14 0,15 0,16 0,17 0,18
I get 1.78 TB

Note the diminishing returns.

Solution

Solaris SMI style labels do not support more than 2TB.  You must use an EFI label to access more space than this (format -e to label it).

Update the  RAID card firmware and Raid Manager software to latest from http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sunraid/index.htm"

You can verify the correct version of Raid Manager with the arcconf command

./arcconf

  | UCLI |  Sun uniform command line interface
  | UCLI |  Version 6.40 (B17557)
  | UCLI |  (C) Adaptec 2003-2009
  | UCLI |  All Rights Reserved

You can verify the firmware version using ./arcconf GETVERSION 1

example
"arcconf GETVERSION 1"
