Sun StorageTek SL48 Tape Library - Version All Versions to Not Applicable [Release All Releases to N/A]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Medium Changer Is Not Visible in cfgadm -alv for SL48 Tape Library

Medium Changer or library is not detected in the Operating System.

Cause

cfgadm -alv shows only the tape drive and not the Medium Changer.

Solution

This only applies to Fibre Channel-connected drives. For SCSI and SAS drives, the library LUN is properly displayed in cfgadm -alv.
If there are no FC HBAs in the system, cfgadm -al[v] -o show_FCP_dev will return the following error:
cfgadm: Configuration administration not supported

This is explicitly stated in the cfgadm_fp(1M) manual and in Solaris 10 Administrators' Guide.

cfgadm -alv will show only the base devices that are connected and not the LUNs attached to those devices.

Ex: In case of SL 48 One tape drive (Designated as Master Drive) shares its WWN with the Medium Changer. So the Medium Changer being a LUN device, does not show up in cfgadm -alv.

To display all the devices including LUN devices, connected to the HBA check the following command,

cfgadm -alv -o show_FCP_dev
