Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) - Version 6.0 to 6.9 [Release 6.0]
Sun Storage 2530-M2 Array - Version Not Applicable and later
Sun Storage 2540-M2 Array - Version Not Applicable and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After resetting an array configuration using either the following CAM command line (CLI):

sscs reset -l array array <arrayname>

/* `sscs` is under:
/* Solaris: /opt/SUNWstkcam/bin/
/* Linux: /opt/sun/cam/bin/
/* Windows: C:\Program Files\Sun\Common Array Manager\bin

or the Browser User Interface (BUI):

Storage Systems -> <arrayname> -> Administration -> Reset Configuration… -> Reset Storage Array Configuration

CAM raises the following alarm:

Alarm Id         : alarm83
Severity         : Major
Type             : 2540m2.ProblemEvent
Topic            : unlabeled
Event Code       : 93.66.9999
Date             : 2013-01-11 12:57:32
Device           : unlabeled[SUN.7010610.hidden]
Description      : The array has reported an undefined fault.  Fault ID: 434.
State            : Open
Acknowledged By  : -
Auto Clear       : Y
Aggregated Count : 0

Note: It takes 5 minutes for CAM to raise the alarm. This is the default polling interval.

Changes

The conditions to encounter this situation are:

  • The Sun Storage 2500-M2 has the firmware 07.84.
  • You reset the array configuration using either the CAM CLI or BUI.
  • Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) release is below 6.10.

Cause

The fault ID 434 means that the controller is booting up in database recovery mode, with no configuration. The backup database images are locked in read-only mode. The storage administrator is expected to recreate the configuration, using the database backup images.

Solution

  1. You need to download and install CAM 6.10. Please refer to the <Document 1296274.1> How to Download Common Array Manager (CAM) Software and Patches.
    The documentation is located here.
  2. Execute the following command to clear the recovery mode:

    # /opt/SUNWsefms/bin/service -d <arrayname> -c cancelDatabaseRecoveryMode

  3. Wait 5 min. The alarm in CAM will auto clear.

Note: CAM 6.10 is currently only available for Solaris SPARC and x86, if you are not in position to upgrade to CAM 6.10, you need to contact Oracle Support so that an engineer can provide instructions to resolve this error.

Internal Only

Note: This is the procedure to follow if the customer cannot upgrade to CAM 6.10 which includes the solution for this problem.

For TSC L1 engineers
:

  1. Collect a supportdata.
  2. Open a collaboration SR with L2.

For TSC L2 engineers:

  1. Either use Webex or dispatch a field engineer onsite (if webex is not an option for the customer) in order to execute the following commands through both controllers A and B:

    -> loadDebug
    -> cancelDatabaseRecoveryMode_MT

    Note: Executing the "cancelDatabaseRecoveryMode_MT" command does not change or affect the running array configuration.

    Example:

    -> loadDebug
    value = 1 = 0x1
    ->
    -> cancelDatabaseRecoveryMode_MT
    SYMbol process complete, retCode: RETCODE_OK
    value = 0 = 0x0
    ->

  2. The alarm will be cleared in CAM after the polling interval which is 5 minutes.
