- Problem is not limited to a particular drive or media.
- SL500 event logs show unload failures due to PMR (Prevent Media Removal) is set.

2012-01-04T07:05:09.750, 0.0.0.0.0, 1000, scsi-server, , warn, 1207, 1101, "SmcMoveMedium::execute() - unload from drive failed pmr set", UNKNOWN,
---

Cause

Interference from Applications or Services running on other hosts (other than backup) which can access the Drive and Library in SAN environment.

- PMR was unset using HP LTT tool but problem repeats after sometime.
- Backup application is Commvault but that wasn't setting the PMR in this case.

Solution

SAN configuration/Zoning was modified so that only the required hosts can access the SL500 and Drives after which problem did not re occur.
