Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1516481.1 : Seeing "Excessive MAC Move Messages in /var/log/xvnd.log files on the Fabric Director or in the xvnd.logs in the Fabric Director Diagnostic Log Bundle
In this Document
Applies to:Oracle Fabric Interconnect F1-15 - Version All Versions and laterOracle Fabric Interconnect F1-4 - Version All Versions and later Information in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsSeeing excessive MAC moves in Fabric Director /var/log/xvnd.log files. CauseThere are multiple possible causes for this issue. Please see detailed list below SolutionMAC moves can occur for the following reasons: 1. Misconfiguration of LAG. 2. Could have bad ethernet cable in the LAG. 3. Could have bad port either on ethernet switch or Fabric Director. 4. In ESX host MAC moves can occur because of duplicate MAC at the ESX host level (if more than one VM has same MAC).
Get the upstream switch port LAG configuration, note if LAG is configured for LACP or static. Also note ports in LAG. Delete and recreate the LAG from director and upstream port. b. Delete the LAG from upstream port. c. Recreate the LAG on upstream port. d. Recreate the LAG on director. If the LAG is created on the Fabric Director before creating the LAG on the upstream ethernet switch, a MAC storm can occur.
Note- If the host is windows OS and it is using HA vNIC's, the MAC moves can happen between directors when a link flab occurs
