Symptoms

In the presence of this issue you will see false MB voltage errors in the SEL.  Errors such as these would most likely cause the system to fail, panic, reboot, fail to complete POST, or to fail to boot at all.  However, the systems showing these SEL errors are running normal with no issues.

There may be several of these false errors in the SEL over time which may lead to believe components need replaced when they do not.

Here are some examples of errors:

a0 | 06/06/2010 | 07:37:32 | Voltage MB/P0/V_+0V9 | Lower Non-critical going low | Reading 0.44 < Threshold 0.80 Volts
a1 | 06/06/2010 | 07:37:39 | Voltage MB/P0/V_+0V9 | Lower Non-critical going high | Reading 0.90 > Threshold 0.80 Volts
a2 | 06/06/2010 | 07:38:50 | Voltage MB/P0/V_+0V9 | Lower Non-critical going low | Reading 0.44 < Threshold 0.80 Volts
a3 | 06/06/2010 | 07:38:57 | Voltage MB/P0/V_+0V9 | Lower Non-critical going high | Reading 0.90 > Threshold 0.80 Volts
a4 | 06/08/2010 | 15:19:07 | Voltage MB/V_+3V3STBY | Lower Non-critical going low | Reading 2.75 < Threshold 3.01 Volts
a5 | 06/08/2010 | 15:19:13 | Voltage MB/V_+3V3STBY | Lower Non-critical going high | Reading 3.29 > Threshold 3.01 Volts
a6 | 06/08/2010 | 15:22:48 | Voltage MB/P0/V_+0V9 | Upper Non-critical going high | Reading 1.21 > Threshold 1.01 Volts
a7 | 06/08/2010 | 15:22:57 | Voltage MB/P0/V_+0V9 | Upper Non-critical going low | Reading 0.90 < Threshold 1.01 Volts

Cause

Those abnormal readings are caused by glitches during I2C bus reading.
