OEM 12c: Exadata Database Machine Discovery

Symptoms

Discovery fails with java.net.UnknownHostException error in a pop-up message, as shown below:

Pop up error message

You can see this is referring to the Infiniband Switch.

Cause

The hostname set for the Infiniband switch does not match the configuration files.  Check the following:

1.  Check the entry for the switch in "/opt/ oracle.SupportTools/onecommand/databasemachine.xml" where it shows the name as lpnoe02asw-ib3

<ITEM ID="16">
<TYPE>ib</TYPE>
<ADMINNAME>lpone02asw-ib3</ADMINNAME>       <<<<<<<<
<ADMINIP>XXX.XX.XX.XXX</ADMINIP>
<ULOCATION>24</ULOCATION>
<UHEIGHT>1</UHEIGHT>
</ITEM>

2.  Check the "hostname" command when connected to the switch; it shows a name mismatch compared with the name specified in "databasemachine.xml":

[root@lpone02asw-ib3 ~]# hostname
lpone02asw-ib3.******.com

3.  The ibnetdiscover output also shows the same mismatch:

switchguid=0x212****66a0a0(212****6a0a0)
Switch 36 "S-002****a0a0" # "SUN DCS 36P QDR lpone02asw-ib3.************.com" enhanced port 0 lid 1 lmc 0

Solution

Correct the hostname of the switch to match the name specified in "/opt/ oracle.SupportTools/onecommand/databasemachine.xml" and continue with discovery

Review How To Change Host Name On Infiniband Switches (<Document 1464355.1>) for detailed steps to correct the hostname of an IB switch.
