Cause

In a multi-library complex this message could be an indication that the ILC is attempting to talk to other SL8500 libraries in the string and timing out.  This might be related to the presence on older sl8500s of the 3COM switch, which is known to start failing little by little or suddenly, bringing the whole library operations down.  A couple of these alerts in the library may lead to a suspicious switch, which is to be replaced by a PUE.

Lone messaegs of this type can be regarded as informational.

Solution

Check for 3com switch presence.

Customers should verify the status of other SL8500s in the complex. Look on the Error, Warn, Info logs (under Reports) for communication failures and for timeout messages (please refer to docs 1484207.1 and 1293137.1).

3com failure can also be indicated by frequent multiple failures to CSM components although this is not conclusive (please refer to docs 1484207.1 and 1293137.1).
