Symptoms

CAP does not OPEN - When CAP button is pressed, CAP door opens but within few seconds closes again.

OR

CAP does not CLOSE - When CAP button is pressed, CAP door closes but within few seconds opens again.

Cause

Defective OPEN/CLOSE CAP switch.

Solution

The above mentioned FSCs alone DOES NOT confirm switch failures.
Switch problems are relatively rare & hence eliminate other possible causes by following the normal CAP troubleshooting procedures.

If you suspect the switch, try below methods for testing :

On top of each CAP, there are 2 micro switches fitted below the metallic plate (see the attached pic).
One gets engaged when CAP is fully closed and other when CAP is fully open.

If one of the switch is faulty :

FE can easily swap these switch positions and problem should move from "NOT OPENING" to "NOT CLOSING" or vise versa.
OR
Use the switch set from other CAP or from other L180/L700/L1400 Libraries for testing.

In case you need replace the spare, below is the P/N. It inclused cables & switches.

419703001 [F] CBL ASSY,OPEN/CL,CAP

NOTE :
Replacing switch would not help if there is a obstruction and CAP door does not move enough to make contact with the switch.
